University of Nova Gorica has sponsored the Best European Student Film Award at Animateka International Film Festival for the sixth consecutive time, and for the fifth time together with University of Ljubljana.
The student jury - among them our students Mery Gobec (MA), Ines Nunes Sampaio (Erasmus exchange student from the Portuguese ESAD) and Miha Oven (BA) - chose 'Happy End' by Jan Saska (FAMU Praga): "in deciding on the winner, we considered all aspects of what makes a good animated film. With only one of the films in competition, we were absorbed strongly enough from the moment it started to submerge ourselves completely in the flow of narration. The film makes adept use of the editing rhythm, and finds intelligent ways of adjusting the drawing style to the content. By taking the classic time loop to a higher level, it leads us to the conclusion that is not about how our lives end, what matters is how they are lived."
The student jury gave its special mention to Giggino o’bello by Victoria Musci (La Poudriere), an author who, using the technique of choice, demonstrated masterly skill in creating motion in motion. The film excels on the one hand in the roughness of its material, and on the other in the author’s subtle touch.
The University of Nova Gorica School of Arts showed two films at the festival - MA student Filip Bihar presented his film Dinner Time and Džoni's Song was presented by the group Filip Bihar, Rawan Hourani, Sandra Jovanovska, Miha Oven, Špela Lutman, Anne Elisabeth Tassel.
